One list, one language

A Geenius Newsletter list is one language and one rhythm. A publication can use seven languages. Linking one edition to another is not built.

A publication is one newsletter. A list inside it is narrower: one language, and how often that list is mailed.

What you can name#

The languages a publication may use are English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. Pick at least one. The main language has to be one of them. The public address of the publication is chosen once and does not change later.

Each list then takes one of those languages, a name, and a rhythm: daily, weekly, monthly or irregular. The first list is the default, and the signup page pre-selects it. Readers can be on none, one or several lists. An issue goes to the lists you name, in one of the publication's languages.

What is not a translation#

Newsletter does not tie one language's issue to another's. There is no link between editions, and publishing an issue to the archive by hand is not how the archive works. A sent issue appears there when the archive is on.

You can still write the same story twice, as two issues, each in its own language and on its own list. That is two sends, each with its own approval.

A small example#

Say you write a weekly letter in English and a monthly round-up in German. That is one publication with two languages, and two lists: "Friday letter" (English, weekly) and "Monatsrückblick" (German, monthly). The signup page shows both, with the default ticked, and a reader picks what they want. A reader who ticks both is on both lists, but an issue that names both lists still reaches them once.

When you write the German round-up, you start an issue, set its language to German and tick only the German list. Approving it names exactly that text and that audience, so the English readers are never part of it by accident.

Where it stands#

Lists and languages are in the app. Sending to real inboxes is not switched on yet. The short versions are Lists and Languages.
